There is a caveat to what we said about M.A.C. Not offering classes. There are makeup classes available to members of the M.A.C. Pro and Pro Student programs, but there’s a catch. You have to be either working in the field already or already be studying at a makeup school in order to get a membership. AP Studio Art are college level classes sponsored by the College Board and students may earn college credit for their art. Each class will have it's own syllabus and supply list. I have tried to make it easier on parents to save them time and money of not having to run all over the place looking for art supplies but having an art fee for each.

Evidence-based living well programs empower older adults to take control of their health by maintaining a healthy lifestyle through self-efficacy and self-management. Evidence-based programs include:

Diabetes Self-Management: Diabetes is associated with an increased risk for a number of serious, even life-threatening, complications. Good diabetes control can help reduce the risk of these complications. Topics include nutrition, exercise, stress management, foot care and more. This class is also available in Spanish.

Chronic Pain Self-Management: Chronic pain can be debilitating and may lead to isolation and depression. Better management of chronic pain can help participants feel better, move better and improve quality of life.

Chronic Disease Self-Management: Chronic disease, such as heart disease, stroke, cancer and arthritis, are leading causes of disability in the U.S. Participants will learn to cope with the fatigue, frustration and pain that accompany chronic disease, and exercises for improving strength and endurance, all which have been shown to improve health and decrease hospital stays.

Living Well With Hypertension: Untreated hypertension is the leading cause of kidney disease and failure, and can lead to stroke and heart attacks. Participants will learn blood pressure management strategies.

Diabetes Prevention Program: This lifestyle change intervention program is designed to help participants make lasting changes to reduce their risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes. Developed by the Center for Disease Control, this program offers participants the skills they need to lose weight, be more physically active and manage stress; a trained lifestyle coach to guide and encourage participants; support from other participants, and six monthly follow-up sessions to help participants maintain healthy lifestyle changes. Must be pre-diabetic or demonstrate a high risk of developing Type 2 diabetes.

PEARLS: There are many losses associated with aging – loss of health, loved ones, and independence – and these losses can lead to feelings of loneliness, frustration, anxiousness and restlessness. Left unattended, these feelings can lead to depression, and affect quality of life. PEARLS (Program to Encourage Active Rewarding Lives) is a free one-on-one counseling program designed to help those age 60 and older learn how to manage these feelings and improve their quality of life (Funding provided by The Women’s Fund)

Walk with Ease: This new exercise program seeks to help reduce pain and improve health for those living with different types of arthritis and other related conditions that cause pain and stiffness in the joints. This program will help participants walk safely and comfortably, improve flexibility, strength and stamina, and reduce pain.

Fall Prevention Classes

One in three Americans age 65 and older falls every year. In addition, falls are the leading cause of fatal and non-fatal injuries for older Americans, and are costly in terms of dollars and quality of life. Evidence-based fall prevention classes have been shown to help reduce the number of falls among seniors. The following fall prevention classes will meet at the Richard A. Henson Wellness Center:

Stepping On falls prevention program: This program focuses on how strength and balancing exercises, medication management, home safety, footwear, vision and mobility are important in preventing falls.

Tai Ji Quan: Moving for Better Balance: This fall prevention program for older adults is designed to improve balance and functional movement patterns
